Toilet Paper Roll Crafts

Toilet paper rolls with colorful yarn

Toilet paper rolls… Usually they get recycled without a second thought, but really, they can be used for so many fun and creative activities to help your little one’s artistic side shine. Collect your empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls and get crafting.

Yarn, toilet paper rolls, scissors, and googly eyes

Colorful Creatures

What you need:

  • Recycled toilet paper or paper towel rolls
  • Yarn
  • Googly Eyes
  • Glue
  • Safety Scissors

This craft is perfect for a little one with a big imagination. Glue on a pair of googly eyes, and use the yarn to add fur and hair. You can even use paper or markers to help add teeth and other fun characteristics. Imaginative play really begins to show itself in children around 22 months. To encourage it, you can ask what their new creature’s name is, what they sound like, and even put on a little puppet show with their new toilet paper roll friends.

DIY binoculars

Binoculars

What you need:

  • Recycled toilet paper or paper towel rolls
  • Colored Paper
  • Glue
  • String
  • Safety Scissors
  • Coloring Utensils (optional)

Making your own binoculars is more simple than you might think. Glue two of your recycled rolls together. Wrap a piece of colored paper around the rolls and glue to attach. You can have your little one decorate the paper before to personalize their binoculars. Lastly, attach a piece of string to allow your child to hang the binoculars around their neck. Play a game of Eye-Spy or go on a safari adventure around your neighborhood. Who knows what your little one will see!

Handprint Flowers

What you need:

  • Recycled toilet paper or paper towel rolls
  • Writing Utensil
  • Colored Paper
  • Glue
  • Safety Scissors

These handprint flowers are a great way to bring “nature” inside. Using a writing utensil trace your little one’s hand, or if they want to, they can trace their own. Cut out the outline and save it for later. Glue green colored paper around the toilet paper roll to make the stem, and cut out and attach a leaf shape to your stem. Then glue the handprint to the top of the roll. You can make a bunch of these little flowers, and place them in your window to create a handprint garden for neighbors to see and enjoy.
