Welcome to The Persister Play Kit for 4-year olds
The setbacks and challenges that come with learning are frustrating. As a parent, it’s hard to watch your child struggle with a task, and even harder to see them give up. Playthings and activities that can be made easier or harder are key to building the confidence and persistence to keep trying.
For example, whether your child doesn’t know any letters yet, knows all the sounds they make, or is somewhere in between, they can play (and win!) the Montessori Movable Alphabet Game. The “prize” is a matching Montessori Language Object—our play studies found these really motivate children and encourage them to continue playing.
Tools to handle frustration will benefit your child now and as they grow. The Calming Circle and Breathing Activities Guide teach mindful breathing techniques. In calm moments, you and your child can practice taking slow “belly breaths.” Knowing some breathing activities will help your child feel more prepared to work through difficult emotions.
The accompanying Play Guide for The Persister Play Kit offers helpful tips on managing frustration, ways to extend learning with the playthings and tools, and DIY activities.
